Knowing it is not always feasible to make everyone happy, he feels that putting in the effort in to do so will always be worth exploring because if those involved can feel heard and respected, the outcome will ultimately be of higher quality. By employing this strategy, he has been able to bring project teams that were once divided, to work together more harmoniously.

As a public speaker, teacher and mentor, he motivates and imparts confidence to his audience. He has an eclectic personality that is enthusiastic and speaks emphatically and with passion. He attributes this, along with his many hand gestures and facial expressions as part of his Italian DNA.

He is bilingual, mastering the Spanish language to be able to support and do good in his community. He continually volunteers and has been involved in rebuilding homes and preparing and distributing food after natural disasters. He is highly active in sports and fitness and is a leather crafter producing custom hand-made leather goods as a side hustle.

His pride is in seeing his son and family happy, content and thriving, as it confirms he is successfully performing his duty as a father and a man. He would tell you that his feeling of personal achievement is reflected by the happiness of those around him.

The statement ‘to serve and protect’ could not be more part of a person than Jean Riordan. Jean has a multi-faceted background in public service. She has served in the military as a Missions Operations Commander, Executive Officer, Antiterrorism Officer, Active Shooter Trainer, and a Police Officer in the civilian sector. Jean has tremendous military and secular training with an added background in forensic services. She is a certified Massachusetts Sexual Assault Investigator and currently working on her master’s degree in Cybersecurity. As a strong leader and inspirer, she brings unique experiences and expertise to Thryv, assisting in specific State and community-based training.

As a disabled veteran and having a daughter with a learning disability, Jean approaches her training with a valuable perspective. She can clearly understand the environment that those with disabilities share and can adapt with an empathetic and practical approach. As a child growing up with dyslexia and having been tutored herself, she can fully appreciate that each individual may not necessarily learn like everyone else. Still, she shares the perspective that to be an effective learner, one needs to identify your strengths and understand where one may need more support.

Her many degrees and secular advancements demonstrate how a disability neither defines a person nor prevents their professional advancement and outstanding achievement. To ask her, she would tell you it’s about ‘braving on,’ ‘having a good attitude and the will,’ and ‘as long as you keep your mind moving, the body follows, you have to keep going.’ In this, she has walked the walk.

She believes that character building starts at home, the community is super important, and getting involved in the community lays a good foundation for herself and her family. Jean serves in two local chapters of the Eastern Star Organization. Jean loves to involve herself in ‘mom stuff’ as an assistant baseball coach and a member of the PTA. She is proud to say that her greatest life achievement is successfully serving in the military while being a single mom, raising two children on her own. Jean is proud that she poured her heart into her kids while still honorably serving as a professional and leader.

Kim is an educator that is fully committed to working in and with the Deaf community. He has served as an instructor of ASL for over 20 years in the U.S., abroad, and has adapted successfully to training in the virtual space. Training and teaching have been an outlet for his creative and innovative energies.

Kim is a true linguaphile. As a deaf child, from his own countless trips to the local speech pathologist, he got hooked on phonetics which enticed him into the world of sign language and linguistics. One of his many hobbies is learning and dabbling in various sign languages. Other than being fluent in ASL and Maritime Sign Language, he has learned a variety of signs in multiple languages (Austrian, Australian, British, International Sign, Langue des Signes Quebecoise, New Zealand, Polish, Hungarian and Turkish) and currently learning to be conversant in Romanian Sign Language.

Being a linguaphile has increased his cultural sensitivity. He abides by the rule that no single training or instructional approach is the right one for every individual. Because of his education in a range of instructional and training approaches, he can tailor and design his own approach to meet his clients’ diverse learning and training needs. He describes his training mission as ‘living for the personal success of others’.

His students describe him and his classes as being engaging, an expert in both ASL and English along with the linguistics that tie them together, a clear communication style that make the explanations of the material illuminating. Those in his classes have particularly appreciated his pep talks, encouragement and how “the perspective that he gives to us as students, who constantly feel like we are struggling, made a big difference."
He and his wife enjoy volunteer work and helping Deaf education in Eastern Europe and Asia such as Hungary, Romania, and Turkey.

Kim has achieved a BA in Political Science (International Relations), he has graduated with a MA in Deaf Education with ASL endorsement enrolled at Gallaudet University for ASL / Deaf Studies and Linguistics and has a Quality Matters Certification. He also consults colleges on their ASL curriculum as a subject matter expert and onsite ASL expert.
If asked, Kim would say his greatest achievements are his own learners who are able to teach others what they have absorbed in his training or classroom. This stems from the foundation he received from his father who himself was an adult educator of 40 years. In his footsteps, he never allows a single teachable moment to slip by and lives by the mantra that the students are the teachers in the classroom.

Ryan has proven to be a grounding element in even these chaotic and stressful environments, as he has the ability to adjust, adapt and focus to produce a successful outcome whether on a call in his community, an emergency, a military mission or in a classroom.

Ryan takes his solid demeanor, patience and de-escalation skills into other fields as well…the playing fields, as a coach for youth football and baseball in his community. He enjoys playing golf whenever he can and if asked who he is, he’ll say ‘a father to three beautiful and crazy kids and husband to an amazing wife’.
